Industrial Sewing

Service Description

This 6-week course will introduce students to industrial sewing machines, serger machines, new sewing tools, basic pattern drafting and proper dress form applications. Students will also work on creating a professional portfolio and complete a dress for the final project. Dresses created for the final will be presented in a fashion show upon graduating where you will receive your certificate and move forward on your fashion journey. *DISCLAIMER: Class dates are subject to rescheduling if needed, with adequate notice. Class Materials needed: 1 3 RING NOTEBOOK AND PLASTIC SLEEVES FOR PORTFOLIO SWATCH BOOK - $175 AMAZON ONLINE OR $60 FROM ME 2 YARDS MUSLIN FABRIC FOR PORTFOLIO PIECING- Purchase from Joanne's 3 YARDS OF MUSLIN FABRIC FOR DRESS 3 YARDS KNIT FABRIC FOR FINISHED DRESS 3 BASIC ZIPPERS 1 QUALITY ZIPPER- Optional for dress POSTER BOARD- For Vision Board PRISMA MARKERS, WATERCOLOR PENCILS AND BRUSHES 3 TO 4 WOODEN SQUARES- For swatches on the vision board. SEWING BAG WITH ALL BASICS- Basic sewing kit- Hand needles, dressmaker or silk pins, thread, pin cushion, marking tape, fabric pen, fabric chalk, fabric scissors. Kits can be purchased at Joann’s, Walmart, or any fabric store. If you buy a kit, it will have all these items included. PATTERN PAPER AND STOCK BOARD- 3 yards for pattern draft WEEK 1- Introduction CLASSROOM AND MACHINE SAFETY. FABRIC CARE- Swatch Book Project- homework VISION BOARD- Croquis- homework INTRO TO INDUSTRIAL MACHINES WEEK 2- PORTFOLIO CREATION- VISION BOARD COMPLETED MACHINE STITCHES- BASIC BODICE-ZIPPERS-SEAMS-DARTS WEEK 3- PORTFOLIO AND SWATCHBOOK NEED TO BE COMPLETED. INTRODUCTION OF PATTERN DRAFTING MEET YOUR MODEL- Take measurements DRAFT PATTERN, CREATE PATTERN, CREATE AND SEW MUSLIN DRESS- Homework if not finished in class WEEK 4 - MODEL FITTING CREATE FINAL DRESS- Cut and sew dress. WEEK 5- WORK ON ALL THINGS NEEDED TO STILL BE COMPLETED- Turn in all items, Portfolio, swatch book, pattern and muslin dress, and final dress. INVITE FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR FASHION SHOW WEEK 6- GRADUATION AND FASHION SHOW- Receive Certificate from the Board of DDI
